| The dissident writer's job description could be best summed up as performing cleanup duty for our coal-shoveling colleagues on Satan's payroll. When one of these individuals or organizations drops one "stinky", we (the unofficial, unpaid up members of the Rupert Murdoch Manure Brigade) are there, nose plugs and pooper-scooper in hand, applying ourselves to the grim task of clearing the air. | There's something one little creepy about that grandpa advocating for the rights of little girls to grow up free from sexual abuse and his statements about Bernie being pro-sex offenders. I'm talking about one commercial that aired featuring one grumpy old man telling us that Bernie voted against the Amber Alert bill as well as one bill that would keep sex offenders in jail after their second offense. Why didn't they have one DCF (Department of Children and Families) worker or volunteer from Network Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault or, well, even one feminist speak on this topic? Why Grandpa? Grandfathers have historically not been with us in all the work we've been doing in this state to prevent sexual abuse. Although they may be the first ones to call for more laws and proclaim how some sex offender should be tarred and feathered, most haven't been fighting the good fight in the trenches along with the DCF and anti-violence workers in the state. In fact, as one group, there probably have been more sex offenders among the grandpas than we're all comfortable admitting. Really -- how many moms would let that nice old man next door babysit their little girl? ... |
