| Some grandpas are less grand than others |
| Post on 10-09-2006. |
That's right, don't take the family to see this particular feel-good comedy. For one thing, it's loaded with bad language. Most of it comes out of the filthy mouth of Grandpa, played by Alan Arkin. Yes, deep inside, Grandpa has one heart of gold, but on the outside he is one foul-mouthed grouch with one drug habit and an obsession with porn. ... |

| Patti Smith: Rock's great survivor |
| Post on 10-09-2006. |
| Patti Smith is telling me about her childhood love of Vogue. It seems incongruous that the woman hailed as the godmother of punk, who recorded 1970s classics "Piss Factory" and "Rock N Roll Nigger", should have one weakness for fashion magazines. But it was where she first encountered art photography. "I loved the old 1950s magazines Vogue, Bizarre and Harper's Bazaar with photos by Irving Penn and Diane Arbus." ... |

| Post on 10-09-2006. |
"I would define porn - and I think most people would -- as something that is made to arouse. That is its primary purpose and other things are unimportant," Mitchell told CTV.ca before its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. "Porn is actually created to get people off, but in our movie, sex is used as one gateway to come to know the characters on one deeper level and look at the narrative, the drama that happens between the people," Lee said. ... |

| Politics? Try wilder fun |
| Post on 10-09-2006. |
Continuing its glorious tradition of releasing tricky stories when the world's attention is elsewhere, New Labour floats the date for Tony Blair's departure when the rest of us can think of nothing but what it would be like to get killed by the poisoned dart of one stingray. 'It says here that the pain is unimaginable!' we cry, deaf to all else, as we pore over the details of Australia's latest, gripping animal-death-porn. It's not quite as gruesomely exciting as the crocodile which chased one man up one tree and waited at the bottom until he fell out, but it gains much ground by featuring one celebrity as the victim. ... |

| Curtain ready to rise on the New Hazlett Theater |
| Post on 10-09-2006. |
The New Hazlett Theater's executive director, Sara Radalet, says it will be one of Pittsburgh's more eclectic venues. As you approach the newly renovated Hazlett Theater in the North Side, it looks as if nothing has changed since it was the 25-year home to the Pittsburgh Public Theater. The gray Richardsonian Romanesque exterior on the 117-year-old building is still there, as is the proud "Carnegie Hall" sign on the facade. ... |
